FAQs

CFDs let you speculate on share prices without owning the underlying shares. You enter a contract with Axi to exchange the difference in the price between the contract's start and end.

While leverage has the potential to amplify gains, it can also lead to significant losses since share prices can fluctuate rapidly and unexpectedly. If the market moves against your position, you may be required to deposit additional funds to maintain your open trade. Failure to meet a margin call can result in your positions being closed at a loss. In volatile market conditions, it might be difficult to close your position at the desired price. Sudden market movements can cause prices to "gap" over your stop-loss orders, potentially leading to larger-than-anticipated losses.

Yes. You can open a free demo account to explore the platform with virtual funds. Demo accounts operate in a simulated market environment. Performance in a demo account may differ from your real trading account.

CFD trading lets you speculate on the price movement of an underlying asset, such as a currency pair, share or index, without owning it. CFDs are traded on margin, so profits and losses are based on the full position size. CFDs are leveraged products and carry a high level of risk to your capital.

For retail clients, the maximum leverage is 30:1, which applies to major forex pairs. Lower limits apply to other markets: up to 20:1 on minor forex pairs, gold and major indices, 10:1 on other commodities and minor indices, and 5:1 on share CFDs. The margin requirement for each instrument is listed in the product schedule.

For example, let us say you want to open a position worth $100,000. With no leverage on your account (a level of 1:1), you would have to put up the full value of your position in funds to open it ($100,000). However, using an example of 30:1 leverage on your account, you would only need $3,333 in funds to open and maintain that position.

Leverage is often called a "double-edged sword” as using it magnifies both potential profits and potential losses. The higher the leverage, the higher the potential profit/loss and risk.

Negative balance protection means that, as a retail client, you cannot lose more than the money held in your Axi trading account. It applies to retail clients in Australia and New Zealand. Professional clients are not covered.

A negative balance can occur when prices move sharply and a position closes at a worse price than expected (slippage), or through overnight financing charges and index dividend adjustments. One trading account can include several platform logins, and funds across all of them may be used to offset a negative balance on any one login. If your balance falls below zero, contact our Client Services team. Negative balance protection limits your losses to your account funds, but you can still lose all the money in your account.
